The day aims to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, which are degenerative brain diseases that destroy the memory and other brain functions of a person.

On World Alzheimer’s Day, doctors in the field of psychiatry and neurology told Healthwire Media about the disease and treatment to tackle this disease.

“It is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. It usually affects people above the age of 65yrs but approx. Also, few cases of Alzheimer is seen in the younger population as well.  With the high advances in medical sciences and improving the life expectancy of the general population, the incidence and prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders have increased. Alzheimer’s disease is one such degenerative neurological disorder wherein the death of brain cells leads to progressive memory impairment and behaviour changes. This disease not only affects the routine life of a patient but the family members too,” said Dr Prashant Makhija, Consultant Neurologist, Wockhardt Hospital.
