According to recent reports, some people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 after receiving their first shot of the vaccine and before receiving their second shot. If this is the case with you, you should first recover from Covid-19, and then wait for at least 8 weeks after taking the second dose.
While the number of people testing positive after taking the first dose was very less earlier, the same is significantly high in the second wave, especially in Vidarbha, reports say.
Many people who have taken the first shot are testing positive before the due date of the second shot. It is very important to understand that it is very much possible that the vaccination is not a protection from the infection but can provide protection from severe disease.
In an exclusive interaction with HealthWire, Dr. Amit Gupta, Senior Plastic Surgeon Founder, Director Divine Cosmetic Surgery Specialised in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery with fellowships from Brazil and Belgium, explains, “It is impossible to judge whether being positive after the first shot is actualy Covid or the effects of the vaccine. This particular Covid infection is largely harmless and a full two weeks recovery is indicated for the same. Prior to vaccination, it is recommended to get investigated, particularly for inflammatory markers, clotting markers, LFT and hemogram.”
“This is to ensure there is no inflammatory process in the body. Making the 2nd shot safe,” he added.
At present, there are two vaccines available in India and both have different time frames between the first and second jab.
For Covaxin, the second jab is to be taken 28 days after the first while for Covishield, it is advisable to wait up to 8 weeks for the second jab. The chances of getting infected in between are always there.
