We Should Have A National Suicide Prevention Policy: Dr. Samir Parikh

As per the WHO‘s estimates, depression is the world’s single largest medical problem. Three hundred million people globally suffer from depression. It is a medical emergency. Is there a connection between depression and rising suicide? Yes, says Dr. Samir Parikh, Director, Department of Mental Health and Behavioural, at Fortis Healthcare. Most of the people who commit suicide also have untreated, undiagnosed and partially treated depression. “If we treat all depressed people, we will be able to brig down suicide rate in India”, says he.
