
In a tragic incident, Union Minister Shripad Naik met with a road accident near Karnataka’s Ankola district while traveling from Yellapur to Gokarna in Karnataka on Monday.
Although the minister survived the accident and is still in the hospital because of the injuries he received, his wife succumbed to her injuries, sources say.
Deepak Ramdada Gome, Naik’s personal assistant, also succumbed to an accident. Sources say that Naik has been moved for further care to Goa and that PM Modi has spoken with Goa CM Pramod Sawant to ensure that Naik’s therapy is properly conducted.

In the Hosakambi village of Ankola taluk in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, the car in which they were moving turned turtle.
They were traveling to Gokarna from Yallpura.
His wife sustained serious injuries and died in the hospital, while three others had minor injuries, including Minister Shripad Naik.
Shripad Naik has been moved to the Goa Government Medical College. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Goa CM to ensure the best possible treatment for Naik.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke with Goa Secretary Pramod Sawant and asked him to provide the best care and if necessary flies Union Secretary Shripad Naik to Delhi. The CM is in the hospital, sources say. Jitendra Singh and Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa, the Ministers of the Union, also condoled the demise of Naik’s wife and expressed their wish for the swift recovery of Nayik.
