
Prime Minister-led NDA government has appointed Mansukh Mandaviya as the new health minister of the country on Wednesday. He will also be the in charge of Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers.
Mandaviya’s appointment has come after the major cabinet reshuffle held on Wednesday.
Mansukh Mandaviya is among the seven ministers of states who have been promoted and given a cabinet rank in today’s cabinet rejig by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prior Mandaviya, Dr Harsh Vardhan was the union health minister. Dr Vardhan, 66, resigned on Wednesday after receiving a barrage of criticism for mishandling the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has tendered his resignation, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Following that social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot, who has been appointed as Governor of Karnataka, will no longer be part of the Cabinet.
Education Minister Ramesh Pohriyal ‘Nishank’, under whose leadership the National Education Policy was released, has also quit quoting health reasons. Mr. Nishank, had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 21, was admitted to AIIMS in June again following post Covid complications.
D V Sadananda Gowda Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister has also stepped down. Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar confirmed to The Hindu that he has also quit without elaborating the reason for his resignation.
