Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, highlighting the global impact of yoga as a mass movement. The Prime Minister emphasized that yoga unites people from different nations, reflecting the guiding theme of India’s G20 presidency: “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

Leading a mass yoga demonstration at AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, reiterated the significance of yoga. He noted that while yoga originated as an ancient Indian tradition, it had experienced a decline over time. However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has gained tremendous momentum and is now practiced worldwide. Dr. Mandaviya hailed yoga as India’s soft power, enhancing the country’s global influence.

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the myriad benefits of yoga in everyday life, stating that it helps to calm the mind and energize the body. He emphasized that whenever discussions revolve around health and wellness, yoga invariably comes to mind. The practice of yoga also acts as a form of preventive care, bolstering the body’s immunity.

Yoga Emerges as India’s Soft Power and a Preventive Healthcare Solution

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly increased people’s awareness of health and wellness. Dr. Mandaviya acknowledged this heightened consciousness and how it has contributed to the increased relevance and popularity of yoga. Post-pandemic, individuals are actively seeking holistic approaches to maintain good health, with yoga playing a crucial role in their well-being.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for popularizing yoga globally, Dr. Mandaviya urged everyone to not only practice yoga themselves but also encourage others to embrace its benefits.

The International Day of Yoga celebration was attended by several dignitaries, including Shri Sudhansh Pant, Union Health Secretary; Shri Rajiv Manjhi, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry; and Prof. M Srinivas, Director, AIIMS, New Delhi, among others.
