Punjab is fully prepared to fight Coronavirus epidemic: BS Sidhu

New Delhi: Punjab Health Minister BS Sidhu on Monday said that his state is fully prepared to take on deadly Coronavirus epidemic and a proper monitoring is being done across the state.

In an exclusive talk with the Healthwire portal, Mr Sidhu said “a proper screening is being done from the airport for those who are coming from abroad. We take data of passengers from Delhi airport authority. If any suspect is found, we sent him/her to Pune through a special messenger. So far no positive cases have been found.”

“There are lots of NRIs in Punjab. We are checking their records if they visited China and Thailand,” he added.

“An awareness campaign regarding this virus has been initiated and we even screen the passengers coming from Nepal,” said Mr Sidhu, adding this is being done strictly.

Though no case of coronavirus is reported so far, but “we are making arrangement in each and every hospitals for screening the passengers.”

The Punjab government has established medical posts at Attari border and Dera Baba Nanak Gurdaspur for creating awareness among the travellers coming from Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention here that the government is keeping close tab after the deadly coronavirus epidemic outbreak in China’s Wuhan city.

The Centre has announced that those who have come from China after January 15 will be screened out and kept in isolation ward for 15 days.
