No cases of Coronavirus detected in India: Health Ministry

New Delhi:Amid the spread of novel coronavirus, which has already killed 17 and infected over 500 in China, the government has issued a statement and a travel advisory and also said that no case of such virus is detected in India. However, there is one report of an Indian nurse from Kerela working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, who has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. She is currently being treated at Al Hayat Hospital.

Secretary in the Health Ministry Preeti Sudan said so far no case of the deadly virus has been detected in India. The passengers travelling from China are being asked to report to the nearest public health facility in case they feel any symptoms.

The ministry has instructed Airport Health Organizations at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Cochin for screening of passengers coming from mainland China at these seven international airports.

Signages have been put up at prominent locations in these airports for encouraging public about self-reporting of illness. So far, 12,828 passengers from 60 flights screened.

The ministry has also said that the government is on and fully prepared to deal with coronavirus.

According to WHO, common symptoms of the novel coronavirus (nCoV) strain include respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.

Indian Nurse Tests Positive in Saudi Arabia

About 100 Indian nurses mostly from Kerala working at Al-Hayat hospital have been tested and none except one nurse was found infected by Corona virus. Affected nurse is being treated at Aseer National Hospital and is recovering well.

According to Healthwire sources, Indian nurses have been quarantined at Al-Hayat Hospital, Khamis Mushait, Saudi Arabia due to Corona virus threat.

Indian government officials are in touch with hospital management and Saudi Foreign Ministry. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked its consulate in Saudi Arabia to provide all possible support.
