More than 40 delegates from various government and private health care set ups in Delhi NCR as well as from outstation cities like Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Rishikesh, Meerut, and Jodhpur attended the unique workshop.
The brainchild of Dr Col Rakhee Goyal along with her faculty members and a few senior team members of anesthetists demonstrated ultrasound guided procedures for all the delegates. The neonatal and pediatric intensivists from Madhukar Rainbow Children’s Hospital, New Delhi also contributed to the hands-on stations significantly. The workshop was supported by the Indian Association of Pediatric Anesthesia and the administrative assistance was provided by the hospital.
There were multiple stations that addressed the role of ultrasound in assessing the airway, gastric emptying, central and peripheral nerve blocks, vascular access, Echo, and lung scan. The delegates were able to practice hands-on on high fidelity enhanced reality simulator, manikins, and blue phantom practice blocks. Sonosite was kind enough to provide the ultrasound machines for the workshop. Appropriate permission was obtained for the use of the machines.
The delegates got a good opportunity to learn from the experts and get a hands-on feel at the same time. Each delegate was also provided with a specially curated manual with all the details of literature relevant to the topics. Further workshops like this will provide practitioners with a better insight into patient safety in pediatrics.
