Annually, 8th of February is observed as Safer Internet Day to raise awareness about the dangers lurking online, as well as the impact it has on the minds of its victims.
As the use of the internet and digital penetration increases, be it for education or leisure and entertainment, youth are among a highly vulnerable group of potential victims. Children and teenagers growing up in this highly virtual world can be easy victims for cybercriminals who would take advantage of their innocence.
Hence it becomes very important that parents be aware of the impact that cybercrimes create on the mental health of their children, educate their children to understand the signs and parents need to understand the importance of a safer internet connection.

“The thing about children is that they are at their tender age, they are at age where over a period of time their identity is forming and there may be things that they are not completely aware of hence they are going on the internet and exploring things, they are liking the content but they don’t know what they are doing or what impact it has on their mental health, so the parents should start noticing their children, they should start listening to them, knowing what new they are learning and these are some things that the parents can do to make their child feel comfortable so that they can talk freely with their parents on any topic,” said, Vikram Kirtikar.
