Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level meeting in March

Earlier in March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting to take stock of the preparedness of hospitals to tackle the sudden surge in the number of Covid and influenza cases in the nation.

PM Modi had directed officials to increase the Whole Genome Sequencing of Positive Samples with the designated INSACOG Genome Sequencing Laboratories. The increase in the number of whole genome sequencing helps track newer variants and timely responses.

The Prime Minister emphasized that everyone must follow Covid appropriate behaviour – which includes wearing masks and avoiding places that are very crowded.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases is increasing in the national capital as well with Covid positivity rate exceeding 25 per cent on Wednesday. The national capital recorded 509 fresh cases on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has assured that the Delhi government is monitoring the surge in Covid-19 cases closely and is fully “prepared to face any eventuality.” Other states too are tracking the surge in coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh has reported its first death due to coronavirus in 2023, health officials said.
