Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Jaypee Hospital Felicitated Breast Cancer Survivors In Pink Ribbion Meet

Jaypee Hospital (Noida) hosted Pink Ribbon Meet on 23rd October, 2021 to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The aim of the event was to felicitate breast cancer champions and raise awareness about the disease among people.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer in women worldwide, comprising 16% of all female cancers. Developing countries bear a disproportionate burden for breast cancer, making up an estimated 69% of breast cancer deaths.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashish Goel, Director, Surgical Oncology, Jaypee Hospital and organiser of Pink Ribbon meet said, “Multiple reasons are keeping women away from getting diagnosed in early stages as many women prioritise their family needs before their health. Some were hesitant to talk about lumps in breast and consult doctors in time leading to delay in diagnosis. Be vigilant about breast cancer detection. If you notice any changes in your breast, such as a new lump or skin changes, consult your doctor.”

“Two-thirds of all women around the world don’t generally go for regular breast cancer screenings. It is extremely crucial that the women aged 40 years and older should go for a mammogram once in two years. If detected at an early stage, the chances of the survival exceed 90 percent,” enlightened Dr. Sudarsan De, Director, Radiation Oncology, Jaypee Hospital

Further speaking on the technological advancement in cancer treatment, Dr. Abhishek Gulia, Associate Director, Department of Radiation Oncology, Jaypee Hospital said, “Sedentary lifestyle coupled with consumption of junk food has been the reason for high occurrence of breast cancer. Breast cancer can be avoided by following a healthy lifestyle, quitting alcohol and tobacco along with regular exercises. Stress can also have a major impact on the health. In the last decade or so, there have been many technological advancements in the field of Radiation therapy, Immunotherapy, Chemotherapy, hormone therapy and surgical techniques which enable us to successfully treat a majority of patients with minimal side effects.”

“Pink Ribbon initiative is tremendously important as they remind us that more people are being diagnosed with breast cancer than ever before. We are sending a message around awareness and earlier. We must continue to find better ways to address this disease and help patients, so aligned with this initiative,” concluded Dr. Yogesh Nishchal, Senior Consultant, Department of Medical Oncology, Jaypee Hospital.

The event followed with the felicitation of the cancer champions. The cancer survivors shared their journey and showed a ray of hope to those who are battling the disease. The programme was concluded with an interactive session of doctors with the audience.
