On Thursday, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said 70% of the Covid-19 cases in India are in Maharashtra and Kerala, adding that in India, 153 cases of the UK variant have been identified so far.
“70 per cent of our Covid-19 cases are in Maharashtra and Kerala. So far, 153 cases of UK variant have been detected in India,” Vardhan said, according to ANI news agency.
He said that in the last 7 days, 147 districts in the nation have not seen a case of Covid-19.
“18 haven’t seen a case in last 14 days, 6 have not seen a case in last 21 days and 21 haven’t seen a case in last 28 days,” Vardhan added.
In Maharashtra, the total number of coronavirus cases is 2,013,353, while in Kerala it is 899,932. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the other states that contribute to India’s coronavirus caseload.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, India registered 11,666 new Covid-19 cases, as the tally rose to 10,701,193, the dashboard of the Union Health Ministry shows. The death toll rose to 153,847 as 123 new deaths were recorded, further illustrated by the dashboard. 1.44 per cent of the national tally is made up of suicides.
Active Covid-19 cases stand at 1,73,740 in the country, while 1,03,73,606 individuals have recovered from the disease, the Union Ministry of Health said.
The new positive cases of India’s Covid-19 were from a total of 19,43,38,773 samples screened up to 27 January. Of these, 7,25,653 samples were checked yesterday, the Indian Medical Research Council said (ICMR).
In India, as many as 2.3 million beneficiaries of Covid-19 have been vaccinated. A total of 16 hospitalizations and nine fatalities have so far been recorded. The Ministry of Health, however, has not connected any of the casualties with vaccination against Covid.
India is currently carrying out the world’s biggest Covid-19 vaccination campaign, administering shots of Covaxin from the Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine, Covishield, and Bharat Biotech International Limited.
India has also sent Covishield shipments to a number of its neighboring countries, such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Maldives, etc. The Serum Institute of India (SII), based in Pune, produces Covishield here, while Covaxin is the first indigenous vaccine against the disease in the world.
Health care staff are being inoculated during the first phase of vaccination, which began on January 16. The government wants 30 million healthcare employees to be vaccinated.
