Ishi Khosla, Clinical Nutritionist, Founder President, Celiac Society of India, speaks on Obesity in Young Children
Obesity is now a global phenomena, but in India what is more disturbing is that young children are becoming obese.
It’s a combination of various factors but the most important ones I feel are coming through diet.
Sugar and particularly some addictive components in food, children eating processed foods having preservatives and additives.
Along with that there’s an issue of sleep and passive entertainment because of which we are not seeing enough of physical activities happening.
So, combination of these things is really taking a toll on youth’s health.
More disturbing is the fact that it is coupled with psychological issues like depression, mood swings, anxiety and panic.
All of these factors are affecting young children. I have also seen that medicines given to children for these conditions are actually counterproductive.
So it’s very important to understand the importance of right diet and how to take it.
It is really something which is almost like an emergency, and urgent call of action.
