On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country was able to contain the spread of COVID-19 with ‘Made in India’ solutions and improved medical infrastructure as well.

Addressing the 18th Tezpur University Convocation, PM Modi said India took swift and proactive decisions to tackle the pandemic and did not wait for the issue to worsen.

“Today’s India is not afraid of working on experiments for solving problems. The world’s largest banking inclusion campaign is ongoing in India. The world’s largest toilet building, house-providing, clean-drinking water providing, and vaccination drive is in India,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that India is supporting other countries with vaccine-related research and the nation’s production potential.

It would not have been possible if we had not trusted our academics, scholars, scientists, and industry, he added.

PM Modi also equated the Indian cricket team’s historic victory against Australia to a “life lesson” and praised the strategy of players to fight in tough circumstances.

A perfect example of the shift in attitude is the Indian team in Australia. They continued fighting even after losing the first test. Even after sustaining injuries, our players continued to battle for wins and kept searching for new solutions. They stood up to challenge in difficult circumstances. Some players might have been less experienced, but there was no less courage. They created history with the right talent and temperament. They defeated such an experienced team like Australia. This performance of our players is a life lesson,” he said.”

The first lesson is that we should be assured of our potential. The second is that the results would also be positive if we go forward with a positive attitude. The third is that if you have an opportunity to go out safely and you have an option of winning on the other side, you can explore the possibility of winning. And if you lose, it can’t be called a defeat when you are striving to win. You should not be afraid of doing experiments and taking chances. We must be constructive and fearless,’ added PM Modi.

Tezpur University’s Innovation Centre and its initiatives for grassroots innovation are an example of ‘vocal for local’. They are instrumental in solving the problems of the people of the region, PM Narendra Modi said.
