A booster shot of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine should offer protection against the rapidly spreading Omicron variant, said the company on Monday.
It has been seen in the Moderna lab tests that half dose booster shot raised by 37 times the level of so-called deactivating antibodies able to fight omicron.
And a full-dose booster was even stronger, triggering an 83-fold rise in antibody levels, although with an increase in the usual side effects, stated the company. While half-dose shots are being used for most Moderna boosters, a full-dose third shot has been suggested for people with weakened immune systems.
The authorized 50 µg booster of mRNA-1273 increased neutralizing antibody levels against Omicron ~37-fold compared to pre-boost levels & a 100 µg dose of mRNA-1273 increased neutralizing antibody levels ~83-fold compared to pre-boost levels.
