BMC Seals 1,305 Buildings After Mumbai Logs 2,749 New Covid-19 Cases

Maharashtra reported 6,112 new Covid-19 cases, 2,159 discharges, and 44 deaths in the last 24 hours, According to the health department.

The Brihan mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday sealed a total of 1,305 buildings after 2,749 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Mumbai.

“A total of 1,305 buildings sealed in Mumbai after 2,749 Covid-19 cases reported. 71,838 households residing in these sealed buildings,” the BMC said.

Total cases in the state stands at 20,87,632, including 19,89,963 recoveries, 44,765 active cases 51,713 deaths.

As Mumbai is witnessing a rise in Covid-19 cases in the past few days the state government has deployed marshals to enforce mask-wearing and social distancing at public and religious places, said Mumbai’s Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Friday.

According to Union health ministry data updated on Saturday, the daily Covid-19 cases in the country has climbed to about 14,000 after nearly 22 days taking India’s tally to 1,09,77,387, while the recoveries surged to 1,06,78,048.

In a span of 24 hours a total of 13,993 new cases were registered. The death toll increased to 101 daily new deaths, as per the data updated at 8 am showed.

There are 1,43,127 active cases of coronavirus infections in the country which comprise 1.27 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
