With the continuous increase in the number of coronavirus cases, the healthcare system of the country has been completely exposed. And some private hospitals are trying to take undue advantage of this pandemic situation by fleecing COVID-19 patients with exorbitant charges. The recent one in the list is Max Hospital, Gurgaon whose rate card for treatment of coronavirus patients is going viral on the internet.
According to the ‘schedule of charges for treatment of COVID-19 patients’, a COVID-19 patient will have to pay Rs 25,090 per day for a general ward. Similarly, the charges for ICU without ventilator are Rs 53,050 and with ventilator are 72,550.
On top of that, it states that all medicines with unit MRP of Rs 75 will be treated as high-value medicine and charged extra. We tried to speak to the hospital’s PR team to take their reaction but they didn’t respond to our call and message.
Meanwhile, Twitterati has gone crazy over this exorbitant treatment rate fixed by the Max Hospital, Gurgaon, and saying it can’t be justified by any means.
“Vulturism in the times of Corona, can’t be justified by any means,” tweeted a user.
“Broad day robbery..loot..govt & CM have turned blind cause they are getting commission from [email protected] @SatyendarJain @narendramodi @AmitShah @SmritiIraniOffc @GautamGambhir in India it’s a curse or crime to be born poor. It’s all about being Rich & being famous,” said another Twitter user.
Earlier, a circular of Saroj Super Speciality Hospital went viral which stated that patients will be charged a minimum of Rs 3 lakhs once he gets admitted for treatment of the coronavirus.
However, the hospital later clarified the circular dated 4.06.2020 was one of the proposals internally made and was internally knocked down and never taken forward.
